| Aug 09, 2009 (Sun) - Sep 08, 2009 (Tue) | Various locations and dates, including Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC | Amina Linda McMakin | Mary Magdalene Series Join us for one or more of the dances in this special series, Dancing with Mary Magdalene. Over the past few years there has been renewed interest in Mary Magdalene, as evidenced in new translations of the Gnostic gospels, TV specials, and the film, Mary of Magdala. This renewed interest represents the archetypal Feminine Principle and the balancing of co-equality between men and women through the profound mysteries of the sacred marriage, the earthly and heavenly union, and the awakening of the Feminine. An unexpected journey into the Magdalene mysteries began for Amina Linda during the 2008 Lent and Easter season. One by one, she was led to create a series of dances that seemed to capture a particular vibration, the vibration of the Anointed Bride. This inspirational process continues to this day, and a repertory of sixteen dances has "come through." Some events in this series are for Women only or require reservations. | Jul 05, 2009 (Sun) 7 PM | Servanthood House, 156 E. Chestnut Street, Asheville, NC | Perry Wali Pike | Gospel Zikr Perry Pike grew up in rural Arkansas, attending a one-room country church with his family. His childhood memories of ecstatic singing led him to connect Sufi zikr to gospel music. He's wanted to show his childhood Christian community how to pray with their whole bodies, minds, and hearts. He's also wanted Sufis to taste the sweet and joyful ecstasy of gospel music. This zikr is a group practice with simple movements, some chanting in English, and familiar old Christian hymns like This Little Light of Mine, and Glory Glory Halleluia, since I laid my burdens down (sung to the tune of Will the circle be unbroken...). As the circle experiences deep joy and ecstatic listening to the collective heart, Perry embraces his two loves in one form. Suggested minimum donation is $ 5.
