June 20-22, 2008 (Fri - Sun) Fair Oaks in Hogansville, GA Murshida Mariam Baker and Tommy Haywood Toward the One We’ll continue the celebration of Rumi’s 800th birthday with a concentration on Mevlevi Turn Practices and Rumi Poetry. Murshida Baker, a senior teacher in both the Rumi inspired Mevlevi Order of America and the Sufi Ruhaniat International, is returning to Georgia for the 5th consecutive year. She will share her wisdom, joy and love with our small intimate community - the“Parlor Sufis.” Cost is $235 including all sessions, meal and lodging if registered by May 9th ($35 late fee after this date). Hot Springs, NC Akal Dev Sharonne and Mark Smith Dances of Universal Peace were the vision of a Sufi master named Samuel Lewis, and began as a Sufi practice. Over the years they have come to embrace all the major spiritual traditions of the world. By singing sacred phrases to the accompaniment of simple movement, participants literally embody the sacred phrase, moving beyond the level of ego and personality to see the Divine essence that resides within each of us.

Come join us for a time of deep attunement and "drinking with the Beloved" -- a long summer weekend of Sufi practice, including the Dances of Universal, Zikr ("remembrance"), Sohbet ("spiritual discourse"), Turning, meditation and silence, exploring sacred sound through drumming, men's and women's Zikr circles, and the teachings of Hazrat Pir-O-Murshid Inayat Khan, Murshid Samuel L. Lewis, Pir Moineddin Jablonski, and Murshida Vera Corda.

Jul 18-20, 2008 (Fri-Sun) Music Explorium, 5314 Highway 55 Ste 102, Durham NC Layne Redmond Ancient Secrets of the Bee Priestesses Chanting, overtone singing, and humming sacred sounds to the rhythms of the frame drum is an ancient technique for directly synchronizing the mind and body, creating conditions for psychological, physical, and spiritual healing. The ancient Bee Priestesses, called the Melissa in Greek or the Deborahs in Hebrew, served the Bee Goddesses: Aphrodite, Artemis, Cybele, Demeter, Persephone, Neith, all associated with the frame drum. Note: To attend this event, you must have taken an Introduction to Frame Drum class with Layne or with Farrunnissa. An Intro class will be presented Sat 17-May in Durham, see details above. Through our voices we join a stream of consciousness, emotion, and devotion that has been flowing for centuries, sharing the joy of making inspirational music together.
